or is Indiana's statement upon firing Archie Miller that "private philanthropic funding" will cover Archie's $10+ million buy-out a complete bastardization of the common meaning of the word "philanthropic?" Let's see, I have $10+ million to donate to a "good cause"--forget needy children, cancer research, COVID relief, etc., or even, if you want to give the money to Indiana, to its pediatric children's facility, I'll decide that my definition of a "good cause" is to give it to Archie Miller, call it philanthropy, and maybe (perhaps I'm just being overly cynical here) try to take a tax deduction for it. If Michigan ever fires Jim Harbaugh, will we change the J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Football Coach to the J. Ira and Nicki Harris Philanthropic Fund to pay for the buy-out?

Look, people can do what they want with their own money, and I would never suggest that doing so is inappropriate unless it is for illegal or immoral purposes. You want to pay Archie's buy-out because it may get you a coach who wins more, or even one who has a modicum of personality, that's fine, go right ahead. Cloaking this under the guise of charitable-like donations though? Really?
