... we should consider the same?
Jake has done a great job of doing all he's been asked, to be a conservative, good game manager ... and all credit due him for getting us to 5-2 at this point, a terrific accomplishment. But ... I think we've now seen all Jake is capable of doing, even under the expert tutelage of Coach Harbaugh. The only issue with him is as I see it, is that we can't stretch the field with him, and we make it too easy on opposing defenses (the good ones, at least).
After Saturday, I think our chances of reaching the B1G Championship game are quite slim. Jake will not be back next year. To me, my highest priority goals for the rest of the season are: 1. Beat TUOS, and 2. Get to the best bowl possible, and beat a quality opponent. Going forward, I think we can handily beat at least three of the remaining opponents, even if we put in George Plimpton at quarterback.
If we could run the table with Rudock, I wouldn't want to see any change, but I think we are tying one hand behind our back with him ... particularly against TOSU and any quality bowl opponent. Not much difference to me, now, if we finish the season at 9-3 or 8-4 ... it's already a great season for us.
Coach Harbaugh and his staff have been working with all the QBs all season now, and with lots of work over the bye break, they should be pretty well groomed. Why not give one of them that can heave the ball deep with some chance of success, and able to keep the opposing defenses from stacking the LOS a chance .... starting with the next game, and let them build some valuable experience prior to the TOUS and bowl games ... and for the next seasons?
With our excellent defensive and special teams play ... I'd like to see us open up more and take some risk on offense. I'd gladly trade a couple turn overs for multiple three and outs for the rest of this season. Nothing more to "prove" with Rudock ... let's go for it, this season ... do it now!
