Not sure if mentioned in the game thread. Sure it was, but on the opening series- the play where Isaac steps on sideline during a long TD, Caesar Ruiz was in at TE. The play was fake jet sweep and Ruiz gets a great block.
Also liked that he was the first one to congratulate Isaac in the endzone, which means, after his great block, he ran the play down the field and was the first michigan player to reach the endzone passing the likes of Crawford et all who slowed once Isaac had broken away.
I generally don't read TOO much into little nuggets like that, but this is a kid who showed up in spring at about 350 iirc. He's already transformed his body and is excited enough (and fit enough) to be on the field to play his assignment and then run the play down 60+ yards down field.
Stanford and the harbaugh 49ers both ran a lot of 6OL sets. Josh Garnett, Michigan recruit, eventual first round pick from Stanford was groomed this way as a true frosh. They ran this set a lot especially in power (sometimes their base) and it often beared fruit. Ruiz will be expected to takeover at C next year and it'll be really beneficial for him to have some livefire experience imo. Seems like a good way to achieve this. The late TD run by Higdon only happened because a great block down by mckeon who basically collapsed the right side of the AF DL. Imagine Ruiz blocking down on a 250lb DE. Dividends.
