From an Athletic article for Max Olson,

- "The Wolverines’ defense has moved up in the stop rate standings every week. Two games in, this unit ranked No. 37. They’re now up to No. 4 and are getting stops on 82.2 percent of all drives. And because they get off the field and let their offense rank fourth best nationally in time of possession, they’re only having to play 11.9 drives per game, which ranks among the bottom 25 nationally."

-"Since the season-opening loss to Notre Dame, the Wolverines have played 95 drives on defense and permitted 15 scoring drives. When you look through the box scores, you’ll find seven of those 15 scoring drives occurred in garbage time when the game was out of reach. Michigan has given up 122 points this season, and 40 of those points were scored in garbage time."

-"They’re holding opponents to 3.73 yards per play. If they can sustain that, it would be the fewest yards per play allowed in a season since Alabama in 2011. Another area where Brown’s crew is the best in the country: They’ve only let 70 of their 522 plays go for 10 or more yards."

"A big factor in that success, as usual for teams proficient in getting stops, is third-down defense. Michigan has logged an FBS-best 17 sacks on third down, according to data compiled by Sports Info Solutions."

Those are certainly impressive numbers.
