it looked to me yesterday to be a team that had been basking in the glow of the Florida win and believing the headlines of their greatness. Looks like even our infallible head coach and staff fell victim as well. Not to mention they were reviewing film of a team that struggled with austin peay and probably just got lazy. They're human after all.
Either the preparation was as bad as we've seen in a while or it was nerves of playing in front of the home crowd to go with the aforementioned, it was simply a mistake prone affair and they lost confidence in themselves and the coaches lost confidence in them.
The clock management at the end of the half wasn't bad - it was just surprising and spoke of the lack of confidence Harbaugh had in his offense at that point in the game. He wanted to get them in the locker room and regroup. He is probably second guessing that because maybe showing them that he had confidence to put the ball back in their hands with 2 minutes to go in the half would have been a better choice. Instead, he gave the opponent the shot in the arm they needed to rip off two big plays and get themselves into scoring position.
Anyway...the pundits were right about one thing...it's a young team and yesterday it showed and I personally believe they'll grow a lot from that experience, refocus and throw away the headlines from week 1.
No team - none - look great for 13 weeks on end. Even the best teams and national championship teams put up a few "ugly" wins to get there. We're not winning a NC this year, but we did actually win the game by three scores.
Everyone take a deep breath...2-0 and 3-0 after next week.
