If you are a star QB...

I am curious why Michigan would make your list of school to attend especially if have aspirations to go to the NFL. The last QB to play at Michigan that saw any meaningful time in the NFL was Denard and that too at the RB position, not QB. In addition to that if you take a look at the top young QBs in the NFL today - Burrow, Mayfield, Watson, Murray, Mahomes, Justin Herbert and now with both Lawrence and Fields coming up this year - they ALL play in offenses were QBs get really featured and on teams that score points in bunches and play fast versus trying to shorten the game by taking 33 seconds to snap the ball on every play (ala Gatis). The least impressive best season by these QBs mentioned above was JHerbert who had only 32 TDs and 3400 yards last year. That's the least impressive. For context, that would tie or beat the Michigan ALL-TIME record in both those categories. Grbac had 32 TDs about a 100 years ago and Navarre once had 3300 yards I think.

The bottom line is, I see a lot of threads about wanting a super stout defense like we used to have but the reality is that it's more important to have an offense that scores in bunches and scores often because that is what is going to attract offensive talent. Stats matter to college kids right now because they are seeing that the highest drafted players play in up-tempo offenses that can consistently score over 40 points. QBs want to have at least 40 TDs in a season - heck Burrow had 60 passing last year!!! The entire league has changed a lot. Having a star QB come to Michigan and average about 25 TDs per year with around 2800 yards is not going to make him any headlines and certainly not improve his stock/rating because that would mean he wasn't featured in a high scoring offense.

Just my observation and thoughts. While our D needs to improve, we need to have a FAR better offense, one that does indeed cater to the pass happy spread league that we do live in now. My 2 cents.

Also, let's please stop annointing JJ as the next coming of Mahomes, Brady and Luck when the kid has yet to throw a college pass. I hope he is great but he has not done a thing yet.
