If MSU continues to be better in FB and BB than us, I hope college athletics go on strike

I hate MSU so much that it is personal to me and it is so important to me that Michigan has its fair share of success in the only 2 sports that matter, that if things do not change within the next few years, I would rather have college football and basketball go on an NHL like 2004-2005 like lockout, but forever.

We have Harbaugh so there is tremendous hope that things will get a lot better and we willl start beating Sparty and OSU our fair share or more and win an NC or 2.

But I fear basketball with Beilein may have just been a flash in the pan from 2011-2012 to 2013-2014 seasons. Last year was awful and this year is shaping up to be the same after the Xaveir disaster which looked like a Rich Rod coached team

If MSU FB and BB are annual NC contenders and Michigan is not at least their equal or better starting sometime very very soon, college FB and BB can go F*** themselves as far as I am concerned.

Hate MSU?

I'm a lifelong Spartan. A graduate. I donate to my alma mater. Going there changed my life. I know tons of people who have had the same experience at MSU ......and UM. Nah, I don't root for Michigan very much in sports, but man I would never, ever say I hate the place.

No need to have profanity there. Remember about 5-6 years ago OSU had the exact same situation where OSU was in the NC hunt for both sports including making it to the Finals in the NCAA two straight years. Florida went through the same stretch. Michigan at least has 2 very capable coaches now. You could argue Michigan has a Top 5 coach in both basketball and football. JB might not be a great recruiter but he is the best offensive mind in college and has a team that is very young right now. I expect that by 2017 we will be competing in both sports at a NC level. For as frustrated as you are, don't forget that in the past 5 years Michigan has had a closer sniff at a national championship (basketball 3 years ago) then MSU. MSU made the F4 last year but not the final game.

Whatever way you want to look at stats go ahead..

Facts are facts.. For the last 20 years.. On a pretty darn consistent basis MSU has been more successful..far more successful in bball.

In football, over the last 9 years , MSU has been pretty consistently better than UM. Much better..

9 years is not a long time.. But face facts. MD is great and has been great.. JH was great elsewhere.. He may be great at UM.

There is room for both programs to have success.. And likely to happen.. MSU is not going anywhere... Don't bet a single penny on it..

I don't forsee MSU sucking at bball anytime soon - they will be really good the next few years and as long as they have Izzo. I do see MSU football taking a slight step back...the production seen over the past 3-4 years has been great. Now, I don't think MSU becomes a 6-7 win team but I do think they will go to a 8/9 win team over the next couple years. Just my hunch, but can't bet against MD though - he's a heck of a coach.

Msu has been better the past 8 years, sure. Harbaugh is ALREADY doing great things...in YEAR 1...at Michigan. The future is extremely bright, and if not for the gift of all gifts he would have already beaten one of msu's best teams ever with a team that was supposed to be mediocre at best. Dantonio may continue to be pretty good, but Michigan and Harbaugh aren't going anywhere and will only being moving further and further up. Don't bet a single penny against it.

Wow, talk about entitlement attitude OP.

Michigan State and Wisconsin both have been playing well in both Football and Basketball. Wisconsin may be running out of their run. Others have some work ...

Iowa vs. Michigan State (unless PSU shocks everyone) ...

Nice win Michigan State ... nice win over Ohio State!

MSU will be good next year too. If they can beat OSU with the backup QB this year...just wait til next. I think Damien Terry will be looking for another position. He also appears to be injury prone. Seems to get hurt or is hurt all the time. O'Connor just needs to get a feel for the pocket. MSU has RS fresh Lawerke probably ready to take some snaps. DeWeaver coming in to RS next year. The QB position looks promising. All the running backs are back and the O and D lines have a bunch of kids coming on board. Will gave 2 Allens again next tear on the O line. They just keep growing them. To be sure, they shouldn't be expected to be a final 4 team next year....but to me....no other team in the B1G looks to be a ton better. UM has to find another QB. Ohio State looks to be losing a ton. Nobody looks to be a lock to be a lot better next year.
I like my coach. As long as I got Dantonio I think I have a shot every week. I would think UM Nation would think the same re. their chances. Will be fun.

Next year is a likely 9 win year for MSU.. But after that we are loaded again..
We have had 11 plus wins for what will be 5-6 or 6-7 years..

Watch UM football in 2 years.. ..You will have a really young team, no peppers, no Jake Butt, and a really young DL.. MSU rebuilding year is 2016.. Yours is 2017.. Just study the roster..
LIKE I SAID.. DONT BET A PENNY ON MSU GOING ANYWHERE....your chance to finally beat us in 2016.. Miss that window and you might be surprised how long the streak goes..

My emotions really got the better of my after yesterday's game. I was so upset I could not think straight and still feel that way now. There comes a time where you just cannot take the suffering of a hated rival being so great and us being owned for so long anymore. Its like being a Lions fan but far worse because at least with he Lions, there is not OSU and MSU to hate so much in the NFL. This is especially true qwith the a-0hole Sparty fns like Roaring Fork Greern and others who come here to troll and mock us like crazy and it goes well before our down turn started in football. They always mocked us about how much better they were in basketball than us in football and it was probably true given that we underachieved under Lloyd Carr every year outside of 1997, but it was extremely painful to take.

And then to add insult to injury, the last 8 years in football and them being not only good but great in both.

Yes Harbaigh is great and top 5 in all of football. But is Beilein all that great? Yes he had a nice run form 2012-2014, but other than that, we have struggled badly with size down low and been physically bullied and at best barely made the NCAAs in 2009 and 2011. I was hoping last season for Beilein was kind of like MSU's bad 2012 year in FB and we would be back this year, but the Xavier debacle has me super concerned. Its still early, but still. I thought Belein was as good of a basketball coach as Dantonio was an FB coach, but now I am not so sure which makes me sad.

The scary thing for me is that the 2016 game is in EL and 2017 is in AA. We need to win at least 1 of those games. I have thought we needed to red shirt players to protect the game in AA in 2017 cause we cannot let you come into AA and beat us in 2017. That would totally be awful unless we win in EL next year. Come to think of it is there a good chance Harbaugh goes 2-0 in EL but 0-2 in AA against MSU after 2018 season is finished which would count 2016 for a 2-2 record against MSU The road team possibly dominates the rivalry the next few years. Who would have ever thunk that.

Peppers will be back next year and we will be stacked in 2016. We have our entire offense coming back with a QB that has 1 year in the system and started for 1 year at a very good Houston team. We will have a better O-line and QB with a much better arm, all our WRs, and a slew of TEs. The defense will be as good if not better - not sure what roster you are looking at.

On paper the teams that will be the most dangerous next year are Northwestern and Nebraska. Especially NW - they have practically everyone coming back from a 10 win season (I assume they will spank IL next weekend). The East will take some hits with the departure or Conklin, Elliot, Jones, Allen, Cook, Butt (potentially), Washington, etc. OSU and MSU will lose a LOT of players to the draft - I think something like 7 first 2 round draft picks projected were playing last night? That's a lot of talent going.

And with the way the recruiting has already picked up in just year one, sparty fans will be shocked at how quick their window has closed. This was the year...and so far they have taken advantage. After that, it is going to be very tough. I wouldn't bet a single penny against Michigan and Harbaugh after this year. The roster is going to be absolutely loaded and the recruiting is among the best in the nation already.

We don't compete with recruits as much as you must think..
We only play one game against each other a year.
Both can have success. MSU is going nowhere....

It's been said before: we pay too much attention to athletic programs in judging various universities. If there were no football or basketball games, I doubt that any student or alumnus of the University of Michigan would give much thought to Michigan State or worry very much what was happening at that institution. And vice versa. Does anyone at MSU know anything about the engineering school or the economics department in at the University of Michigan; and the same thing the other way around.

You could make it an issue in the next election campaign.

I'm not so sure the window hasn't already closed. I think 2016 will be just as tough a game in EL as this years. And thereafter. Dantonio really has built a nice pipeline of players and UM always has had a pipeline...always has had players....now they have that top notch coach again. Spartans dealt with the most injuries they ever had in the Dantonio era this year and see what they've accomplished. If they just go back to normal in the injury dept. they should remain in the top of e B1G. I'm not worried about Northwestern. I absolutely guarantee you they will never win the B1G the way the East stacks up. The only reason that team can win 9-10 games is by not playing 6 games vs the East. Switch NW with Purdue and they have 2-3 more losses easy.

The "window closing" is even sillier than "the gap is closing/closed" conversations in basketball (which date back actually to detroitbry on this site's basketball board, ironically during the early tenure of Amaker) - believing that UM hiring a good coach leads to MSU's downfall is fool's gold, as Izzo's and MSU basketball's continued success has shown. As long as Izzo and Dantonio are at MSU, their programs will be fine. When they leave, their replacements will be key, as coaching changes always bring risk - as UM found has found out with both football and basketball.

Do Michigan fans really think that if Harbaugh turns things around. Michigan State is just going to collapse? Dantonio built this program from UM's leftovers. Carr and Hoke were grabbing 75% of the recruits both schools offered. Rich Rod not so much because of the type of offense he ran. However, with Harbaugh MSU is doing better in recruiting landing a higher percentage.

My take is this... If UM becomes very strong. All it really does from a MSU perspective, is make 1 of our 13 plus games harder.

I never thought MSU would collapse and always thought they would be solid with Dantonio. I just never dreamed of the nightmare scenario where they would be NC contenders along the likes of Alabama or USC from 2002-2008 or OSU under Tressel and then Meyer. I thought they would be more of a 9-3/10-2 type program.

As a Michigan fan, it is too much to handle MSU being nationally elite in both football and basketball. I could handle them being just good and top 15 in football, but this is just too much for me unless Michigan wins at least its equal fair share of NCs and contends for them in both FB and BB

And the sad thing is, Michigan under Carr was never elite outside of 1997 as we never once competed for an NC. Competing for an NC means finishing in the top 4 final rankings and having 1 loss or less.

So even the good old years, we do not have to hang our hat on much outside of 1997 as Dantonio is already showing to be better than Carr and if somehow MSU wins an NC in FB, Dantonio would be way better than Carr and not even close as much as it makes me want to vomit to say it.
