So there is another THREAD (i can't let go yet) going right now, about "when is it time to unleash our boosters and outbid the cheaters?"
(I don't want to derail this thread, so I won't give my answer to that...but you'll probably feel it at the end)
Clearly we are NOT going to step into that cesspool, we just aren't. BUT, that means we have our huge pool of boosters and cash assets just sitting there, doing nothing, while the renegade programs use theirs (illegally) to gain an advantage. So, other than buying 1st class airfare or lending the coaches the use of private jets, what else can we do "legally" to start putting our huge alumni base, booster & cash resources to our advantage?
What about this? We have arguably the wealthiest and smartest base in the nation to work with. Why can't we put these smart people, armed with nearly unlimited funds, to work. I want to buy the top forensic researchers and investigators. I want them to come work for us, digging up every dirty thing going on anyway. Forget subpoena power, money can buy an open and shut case in the court of public opinion. So I want bullet-proof files on all the dirtiest players. I then want to park this information in the lap of all of the Dan Wetzle's of the world, who love to be the ones to break these kind of stories. And surely we have some smart media types from our own alumni base who can help make sure these stories see the light of day. If we are going to stay clean, then we need to take every measure to use our clean money to expose their dirty money. We need to make it impossible for them to hide reality, and expose them for what they are. We need to maximize public (and congress???) pressure on the NCAA to get serious about it. Put so much egg on the NCAA's face that they have to act, that the public demands it (and/or maybe even risk congress getting involved).
We can't sit back and let our immense human talents and even immenser cash assets go to waste, while other programs use theirs to buy an advantage. If we aren't going to use it to out Cheat them, then why not go FULL OUT using that money to FIGHT the cheaters in the only court we can? The media and the court of public opinion. I'm also confident we have the means to defend ourselves, should someone try to spin this in a way of making us look bad. Our pockets and brains could manipulate plenty of spin to keep any mud thrown at us from sticking.
If we don't do this, we're just sitting around saying "oh well, nothing we can do". BS - there is plenty we can do.
I'm sure there are drawbacks, and I am none of a media expert, investigator, attorney, or expert in NCAA cheater behaviors. So I'm sure this post will be met with TONS of "well this would be a bad idea because ___". I really don't care at this point - I just can't imagine anything right now that could possibly be worse than just sitting back and accepting the status quo from the worthless NCAA.
I'm not willing to sit back and accept the status quo. Either sh*t or get off the pot - either start beating them at their own game (95% of this board says we are above that...If we aren't willing to do this then I will have crossed the line to the 5%) or start using our immense assets to bring an end to their game.
