I see at least three players that needed to redshirt.

Unfortunately they don't have enough players that are effective without their contribution (which isn't much). This season is over already.

I don't think the season is over...but principally development needs

to be the focus. I think you are spot on. This team has a few guys playing that needed a redshirt.

Chatman, Dawkins, MAAR & Wilson. These guys normally would be sitting on the bench on a experienced team. The loss of GR3 is killing this team. I think Doyle & Donnal are actually doing fine all things considered.

I can't say the same about the #4 spot which is killing this team except for Illinois. Did you see Purdue today? They basically overplayed LeVERT and trapped him the entire game.

Streaky Irvin isn't helping but he is less of a problem when compared to the #4. Just look at Illinois. Irvin struggled and then Dawkins gave them something at the #4 and all of a sudden Irvin relaxed and played well.

Put Stauskas on this team and remove Irvin and this team would still have some problems. It would be better but it's hard to win with 2 main scorers. See Burke & THJ. It is only when others stepped up then the team took off. Not that you can't win with 2 hot players but when teams focus on two guys...it's immeasurably harder to win.

The only true freshman that has made a difference is Doyle...none of the others have done much at all, outside of maybe a good game here or there. If I were JB I would make sure Chatman and Wilson were on a high protein diet and on a serious weight lifting program. They both need serious strength gains to play the positions they are supposed to be playing for us in the Big Ten.

RM, I know you have always been a big advocate for Irvin but I'm seriously starting to think he is a role player. He helps us a lot when his three point shot is falling, although he seems to be more streaky this season, but he doesn't excel at anything else. Heck, he missed at least three very easy buckets today right at the rim...all uncontested.

At the end of the day, this team just isn't that good right now. If they play well they can compete against most teams in the conference but it's rare that we are playing all cylinders this season.

Irving is very disappointing..

he plays as if he's trying to interview for the NBA, he thinks he has game but he's undisciplined. He really needs more coaching, and grasp a better understanding of the game. He has the potential to be lethal, but his mind is not on that.

Normally I wouldn't chalk up a season.

But in this case they are losing at home, and I see no road games they can win. They are not physical enough for the road, and the freshmen will constantly be in foul trouble on the road with B1G refs. They have no strong will to push through adversity, no floor leader, LeVert can't do it all.

Levert is the only big time player on this roster and even he has been a little up and down this season. I was hoping to make the NCAA tournament this season but that seems like an extreme long shot at this point. There is no doubt that Irvin has been disappointing. He needed to step up his game coming into this season but in a way he is playing worse than his freshman year. Beilein is going to have to use this entire season for developing the team...and hopefully land a couple big time recruits in the near future!
