"(Beilein) did want Xavier. (But) he had a lot of time invested in recruiting Cassius. He had been recruiting Cassius for about two years. He was offered over a year ago. Beilein is an honest guy and that's what I like about him. He does things with integrity and I like that about him as well. We talked to them a week or so ago and they offered us. We had been talking for awhile before this thing stirred up. But then it got heavy and got heavy real quick."
I think coaches make a mistake sometimes by developing this 'relationships' and become emotionally invested in trying to obtain them as players when the should realize it's just dating a recruit. If somebody comes along and wants to take the relationship even further then cut the tie.
Is JB or anyone else for that matter somewhat of a sucker for even recruiting someone for a long long time without a firm indication of a commitment. Should there be a time frame to when a recruit should give you a commitment. One year?
Here is the million dollar question. How many kids commit to a coach who has been recruiting them for over 2 years? 5%?
Let me go over some guys who have committed to UM bball and try and guess how long from the offer to the commitment. Tell me when I am wrong...I am just guessing.
