I don't know one single detail about this situation, but I do know that football players cannot invert the leadership of the school with these sorts of power plays. Unless the president was caught wearing a white hood, running from the scene of a burning cross, you have to step in and demand that the players not try and manipulate a university through coercion and threats of striking from playing. I'd revoke their scholarships, one and all of players deciding not to play.
