1. Facing 3rd and 1 to keep the clock rolling, and with Hill who's easily worth one yard, why was Morris inserted for some kind of trick play which, by the way didn't work?
2. Why go for 2 with one second remaining?
3. Leading by 20, why take the foot off the pedal.
4. Did the UM secondary fall asleep in the 4th quarter?
5. Was this the #1 defense?

Just wondering

My answers below:
  1. Agree, dumb move - get Speight you is a passing threat as well and it keeps the defense honest.
  2. Dantonio was trying to fight for every last point - he was making a point to his team about playing to the max for 60 minutes. I have no issue with that - good and smart coaching move on his part to teach his team to keep playing. Remember last year, anything can happen.
  3. Yeah, I was surprised by that - I think JH just wanted to get out there versus putting the foot on the gas pedal. I was surprised by that.
  4. Secondary had some bad plays in the 4th quarter - complete breakdowns.
  5. I still think we are great but I think they slacked off - even players said that. It's a rivalry game - yesterday was like a bowl game for MSU. They gave it their best shot where we did not - and it showed. It happens. Every great team has a couple meltdowns - remember Bama against Ole Miss last year? Or when OSU lost to VTech, etc.

1) I think that JH is looking far ahead and planning on establishing on thing out of that formation that will mess up the scouting report. I think peppers hasn't thrown yet out of the wildcat is another case
2) everyone planning on making a run at anything has to be prepared to go for two...they could be practicing in game time to see where they are at..plus tow is more than 1
3) I think the team got caught looking at the score and felt a false sense of security, but so did the coaching. It got real conservative
4)again, caught looking at the score, celebrating before it's over
5) it was, I'm fairly good at my job, but some days I'm better than others ...they are also human

1. It was a stupid call in my opinion but what really is happening is Harbaugh/staff are setting up both Morris and Peppers to throw a deep ball out of that formation with a guy like Harris as the wr.

I thought the call was arguably the worst of the Harbaugh era because nobody wants to see Morris throw into coverage :)

3. You have a fine defense and you are stopping MSU. Why let the game turn on a TO. Remember Speight threw the pick and momentum changed. Time was clearly on the side of UM but Speight (played a great game) and Stribling both screwed the pooch. That tackle attempt on Scott should earn him some serious criticism in the film room.

1> Or better yet.. why run it right at McDowell.. It wasn't a bad play call. You just can't run it at a future NFL DL.
2> I have no idea what Dantonio was doing..
3> Speight int changed the coaching staffs approach to finishing that game. I don't agree but I certainly understand.
4> I think they checked out shortly after the coaches went into play not to lose mode.
5> TBD. MSU shows us some vulnerabilities.

1. Facing 3rd and 1 to keep the clock rolling, and with Hill who's easily worth one yard, why was Morris inserted for some kind of trick play which, by the way didn't work? Some times coaches out coach themselves. Getting cute I call it in HS.

2. Why go for 2 with one second remaining? Get the score as close as possible . Getting embarrassed is a big problem in football at any level. Trying a 2 pointer for future needs. Tweak it if need be.

3. Leading by 20, why take the foot off the pedal. Lose focus get a little lackadaisical.

4. Did the UM secondary fall asleep in the 4th quarter? Loss of focus and out of control on the whole Defense.

5. Was this the #1 defense? NO! But you can't be perfect in every game. Might be the best thing to get out of this game is that ( loss of focus, and out of control) . You are never that good nor that bad in the game you play is an old cliché . Expectations kil me with these darn point spreads. The bookies are nuts to think we will blow out every team. They must be real old reports who still think H. Fielding Yost is still coaching with the 1902-1905 teams. GBGB"74
