…by a team that’s playing in the Big Ten hockey conference only because they have nowhere else to play. And because our conference has been so inept in expanding with real Big Ten conference members. That non-Big Ten team is playing well enough to possibly win the conference championship for the third time in the five years that they’ve been playing as an “affiliate member”. That’ll give them bragging rights that will be maddeningly hard to endure.
We’re stuck with them as an “affiliate member”. If the Big Ten were to kick them out, they’d claim it was because they were too good, just like when they were denied full conference membership by Michigan and Fielding Yost back in 1926.
I don’t know whether I’m more disappointed or disgusted. What can be said is that the coach of that team has done a helluva job developing recruits that are nowhere near as highly rated as those who are playing for the “real” Big Ten teams.
