Northwestern will be without starting cornerback Matthew Harris for “the foreseeable future,” head coach Pat Fitzgerald said Monday.

Harris took a knee to the head during the second half of the Wildcats’ loss to Michigan on Saturday. He stayed down on the turf for several minutes before being carted off the field and into the locker room.

Fitzgerald told reporters that Harris has “a couple of broken bones in his face.” Fitzgerald did not offer a specific timetable for Harris’ return to the lineup, but said he could provide a clearer update after the team’s bye week that follows its Oct. 24 game at Nebraska.

Harris, a junior, has been a consistent presence in the Wildcats’ secondary since his freshman year in 2013 when he played in 12 games and made five starts with 36 tackles. Harris then started every game in 2014 as a sophomore, totaling 70 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and two interceptions.

A sign of a team really playing hard and confidently is laying out the opposition on the field. Lot of that last week. Competition has done wonders for Green, he ran like he was a different, but possessed back, on Saturday.
