are disappointed with how non-competitive the game was against OSU. O.k.

I stated that UM could beat anyone on the schedule except OSU before the season. People claim that UM showed that the expectations should be raised over the last month or so (throw in MSU). O.k.

What makes you think UM should have been more competitive with a team who was bringing their 'A' game and the defending National Champ?

Was it because Glasgow was injured? Was it those close wins against Minny and IU or a relative close game for awhile against PSU? Was it that great running game of UM or those speedy high end lb'ers?

Why is that you were confident stopping Elliott? My point is the odds were if both teams were playing hard that OSU would blow out UM 4 out of 10 times. Beat UM soundly 3 out of 10 times and squeak by 2 of 10 and UM would win 1 out of 10 times.

I just don't see how when looking at the roster/talent on game day that somehow this was some unexpected result. Disappointment? Sure. Surprised or shocked? Not really. UM would lose to OSU 9 out of 10 times on a neutral field and this game was a splash of cold water for a program that needs an infusion of talent.

OSU brought their 'A' game in their biggest rivalry game. Some fans didn't factor that into the equation. This is basically the same team that beat Alabama last year.

No fan in the know was shocked that OSU drubbed us, but surprised, yes, based on how tough this team had played all year against good to great teams. However, given how Indiana ran all over us with the same scheme, but much better defensive talent, we should have braced for the worst.

UM was done psychologically by halftime, nothing left in the tank to compete against a superior, talent-wise, squad. All the disappointment, other than seeing the team essentially lie-down defensively, was based on their over-performing the rest of the year. This team is a couple of plays away from 11-1 when I contend under Hoke the very best possible hope would have been for 5-7, maybe 6-6. That's called whetting our appetites my friend and when that happens you start to dream big...Mark Snyder said it nicely in an article about the game, saying:

"Against lesser teams (UNLV, Oregon State, BYU, Maryland, Rutgers, Penn State), they asserted their dominance, crushing them with shutouts and stifling defense.

Against similar teams (Minnesota, Indiana), they found a path to survival, even rocking one (Northwestern), showing the value of a game's momentum.

And against more talented teams (Michigan State and Utah), they schemed their way into a close game, playing above their head and nearly stealing them."

Mr. Snyder said it very well.

MSU was a better matchup for UM this past season. Things are looking bright but we agree...UM wants to truly play with the big boys like OSU and Alabama AND Notre Dame (yes folks) then it needs big time talent at playmaking positions.

Duh :)

OSU was a bad matchup for us, especially after we lost Ojemudia and Glasgow - there's no doubt about that. But still, I am disappointed in our passive defensive game plan. If Urban Meyer can run the ball, he'll do it all day. You've got to scheme to take away the run first and foremost, even if that means putting your corners on an island. If we'd loaded up the box, maybe Barrett would have burned us through the air, but I would have liked to have seen us try. I think next year we will.

I am extremely disappointed due to the fact i do not feel durkin put the defense in position to succeed. 10 other teams on osu schedule did better than us in stopping their run game, that to me has to be a scheme issue. I think we all should understand at this point that coaching is everything in football. Durkin didn't seem to learn anything from the indi game.....either way disappointed not discouraged, I trust harbaugh at the end of the day obviously.

I would have liked to see Durkin at least TRY to make an adjustment after Indiana gashed us. We're solid at corner. Force them to make the plays over the top. Surely it couldn't have been much worse than Elliott and Barrett going for 7 ypc.
