him a couple times.

I feel like he finally has a glimmer of hope - he gets nothing int he way of encouragement from his old man, but strangely his old man has always made allowances for him.

Anyway - he has been doing a good job in school - couple classes away from an associates and business with automatic articulation to several good schools in VA.

However, he confided in me tonight that what he really wants to do is become an RN or Med Tech and then an RN.

Here is his problem - he has two DUIs and a domestic violence conviction, all misdemeanors.

I looked at it - criminal background checks for admission into most programs and for accreditation.

I have known this kid since he was a pup - coached him in sports when I was around, always linked up with him when I moved back to VA Beach during my Navy career. This is the first time he told me he had passion for something.

Does he have a shot? Are there any decent programs for folks with this type of background --- I think he is ascending, honest as the day is long, good heart, strong work ethic and he is enrolled in AA and a faith based substance abuse program, sees a counselor now --- all of this since my first run in with the young man several months ago.

Keep this young man in your prayers please and if you have an opinion, I'd like to give him some advice that will keep his chin up.
