He has laid out the terms by which he would extend Harbaugh. Most people seem to love the idea of a contract that is heavy in incentives, which is what the offer was. So Jim hasn’t accepted yet or he’s countering. Should Warde have given him 24 hours to decide or fire him? Or should he just cave and give Harbaugh what he wants?
What good is firing him now? You can’t line up a new coach before signing day. And I imagine if he caved to a high guaranteed salary some people would have issues with that too.
Maybe he should have gotten this done in March despite Covid, but we’d probably be on the hook for a pretty large contract in that scenario too. And almost nobody could have predicted such a dismal season that would lead us to this point then, so it’s tough to blame him for not pushing it through then.
