In his rebuke to Kirk Hirbtreit’s comments, Warde passionately referred to the “winningest program” in college football. Coming into this year, Michigan had 962 (*) while second place Ohio State had 924 (**), a difference of 38. As of right now, that delta is 36 (probably 35 at the end of the day).

Many here have said that they are happy with 9 wins per year; fair enough. Assuming Ohio State trends at 12 wins per year, they take over the top spot in 11-12 years, maybe sooner if Michigan has some stinkers in the mix. It seems reasonable that Warde could be in his post 12 years from now. For those who know him, how disturbing would it be to him that the “winningest program” mantle was lost to Ohio State on his watch? For the rest of us, how bothered would you be to lose that distinction to Ohio State?

* The 2019 Michigan media guide shows 953 all-time wins before the start of the 2019 season. It appears that no 2020 guide was published. Adding the 9 wins from the 2019 season yields 962.
** Ohio State's 2020 media guide shows 924 all-time wins before the start of this season.
