OSU's offensive production?... We have an abundance of great football minds ITF and a whole year to prepare. So I challenge thee, and I'll start...
When you amass the kind of talent they have at the skill positions, and add the long-missing ingredient of an accurate QB, it's a pick your poison proposition. The defense is threatened by every skill position player, and attacking without regard is met with a stiff penalty. So long as their OL shows up, they'll be a chore for anyone.
Defending JT Barrett came with it's own challenges, as we painfully watched. Defending Haskins is a much different task. While Barrett was a guy you wanted to contain in the pocket, Haskins will kill you from there. He did last Saturday, anyhow. Winning football starts up front on both sides, so that's where we'll start.
Haskins is guy who will kill anyone if he never has to divert from his progressions. Unfortunately he had that luxury in the game. While Rashan and Chase were able to get around the edge, we generated no push up the middle. IMO, we needed to get Haskins moving laterally, diverting his focus and limiting him to half the field on those crossing routes. I would liked to have seen more end-tackle stunts with Chase or Rashan wrapping inside to flush Haskins from the pocket with Devin shadowing behind. It seemed to me we were pretty vanilla in our base 4 pass rush scheme, and GMatt is a guy with a lot of tricks.
Of course, defending OSU may well be a much different deal next season. So, what would you do?
