its actually very simple. Recruit top level talent!!! There are so many posts here about star gazers and how we should “trust the coaches” because they know so much more than all of us. Urban Meyer is not a better X’s and O’s Coach than Jimmy. He simply has better players. So does that pompous POS Saban. We need our coaches to be elite recruiters. Let’s look at our “elite” coaching staff. How many are known as elite recruiters?
The biggest question around Jimmy coming back to the college game was how would he adapt to the grind of recruiting? At year 4 the answer is not very well? When he arrived w/ energy unknown to mankind he held his own, but now he has settled to taking MAC level recruits w/ the hopes the staff can coach them up. At this point, It’s obvious that it doesn’t quite work that way. The perennial playoff participants Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Oklahoma don’t recruit thinking they are the smartest guys on the room. They simply get signatures from the best players. Despite many posts in here about the ignorance of star gazing, it’s easy to come to the conclusion that Our recruiting strategy is NOT WORKING in year 4!!!
Guys, this isn’t rocket science. The coach w/ the best players wins. Why don’t we win? The other teams have better players. PERIOD!!!!
If we want to get back to the glory days of Michigan, we have to recruit like the glory days of Michigan. It’s really not that complicated.
