Nice to be sitting at 12-0 going on 13-0. Was joking with my son at next years team could be even better assuming we only lose Charles and bring in the 2 freshman with Poole and Iggy staying in college another year. But let's focus on this season for now.
Looking forward to getting back into Big Ten play. We've set the bar so high that in these cupcake games I'm getting annoyed when we are not completely dominating a team rather than just focusing on the win. I'm essentially rooting for KenPom improvement.
The key for the offense is a Poole and Iggy focus with Charles letting the game come to him. Theres 3 to 4 times a game where it's just obvious he just wants to shoot "my turn" basketball. He could have a nice NBA career developing into a corner 3 shooter with great defense. He doesn't need to be the man for this team. Yes he saved our butts vs Western and in some other games but ideally hes the 3rd banana.
Would like to see Poole taking guys off the dribble a little bit more and pick and roll Stauskas 2014 mode. Probbaly requires Brooks on the floor for spacing.
Really like what Livers is doing. Taking on a leadership role, very content and settled into his role. Looks confident shooting the 3. Simpson as the PG is your weak link on 5 out with Livers on the floor, not the 5 spot.
Agree with MHoops that we need to get Teske back into the flow but with lesser competition seems like our guards and wings are pressing the issue against inferior competition with talent edge but we are not running a complete offense that we would vs a better team.
We really need an 8th guy. Ideally it's a big but maybe its Dejulius? Teske, Livers, Iggy and Charles can all handle the 5 and 4 spots collectively it's more surviving with Poole or Brooks on the 3rd biggest guy on defense.
Seems like itll be Davis with a Happ or Ward, but we need to keep giving Johns and Castleton a shot. Very limited sample size but Castleton looks comfortable at the 5 where Johns does not.
Moe was a 3rd center as a freshman then became the backup and someone by March we wanted in crunch time.
Can Castleton get a little stronger in next 3 months? He has length to block a shot, will struggle on boards but has a good perimeter game and can open things up.
If Castleton can give you average defense and simply fit within the offense on easy buckets around basket and shooting that's a huge bonus.
Next year will be fun with Teske and Castleton at the 5, Livers and Johns at the 4, Simpson and Dejulus at the 1, Poole and Brooks at the 2
The Charles 3 spot is where Iggy would slide along with Jalen Wilson as a true freshman.
Heck Adrian Nunez factors in somewhere too
