Do you think that Michigan can compete with the osu’s of the world, even with a great fantastic coach? I question that.
1) With academic standards here, I not sure. I know you will say, but what about nd? nd plays 1-2 hard games a year. I used to complain about this in the 90’s, as well. nd’s greatest move was ducking the B10. nd won 1 game, Clemson, and now they're Playoff contenders. Think of what we have to do, to be a playoff contender.
2) Unlike Michigan, osu recruits don’t have to go to classes; they watch online. They can be barely a part of the campus. It’s like an NFL Bootcamp.
3) Nationally, there are 4-6 teams thriving, all likely cheaters. That’s going to be the case forever, unless they expand the playoff to 16 teams. Cheating is much more sophisticated and harder to prove, than it used to be. The NCAA doesn’t care.
4) With the transfer portal, if it gets tough; if your a losing team; if you aren’t starting and you don’t want to wait for your potential opportunity, players transfer.
5) There are Cinderella stories like IU, but they can’t break into the elite.
6) I fear we are going to be in an endless cycle of hiring and firing coach after coach, unless things change dramatically. That would have to be osu doing something so awful, that the NCAA would have to penalize them. But, why would they? They get all the recruits they want, anyway.
What say you?
