Hoke to Oregon as DC

Is Hoke qualified to be a DC at a major football school? I am serious? Can he game plan against a sophisticated offense?

I don't know. I know he can recruit and be a rah rah guy. I know his players may play hard for him but I can't explain what Oregon was thinking to hire him as a DC.

Not personal...just business.

Well, presumably Helfrich asked him these questions in the interview and he gave good answers.

Most head coaches have a side of the ball they are more involved in. For Hoke it would be the defense. To what extent he was involved in the game planning, I don't know, but it was probably a lot more than he was on offense.

I know they will have good pad level on D, that's for sure.

I'll say for one thing for Hoke...he is a great salesman. I have always said that and during the interview(s)...the HC must have asked him some very specific questions otherwise he gets exactly what he deserves.

Look...this is the first coordinator job for Hoke. He hasn't coordinated anywhere before. He was a HC which doesn't mean he was a good coordinator. I guess experience as HC means you are involved on some level with game planning.

Maybe the Oregon HC is looking at increasing the defensive talent level which makes sense. Can Oregon play any worse defense? Probably not. Maybe this makes sense.

Every staff is different, but usually the HC will be more involved in one side of the ball. If we look at Harbaugh, he's basically a co-OC. I'm guessing Hoke had some input in the defensive game plans although I don't know for sure.
