This has been something I have been holding onto for quite some time and I am so incredibly excited and honored to finally say publicly that I am thrilled to be named the publisher of the Michigan site on the Rivals network. This is truly a dream come true.
If some of you might not know me, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Josh Henschke and I have been covering Michigan athletics for 10 years now. I started covering the Wolverines in 2011 with a small blog I created on Blogspot called The Big House Report. I was on the blog grind for a few years until I received a call to jump on board with Zach Travis and the team over at Maize n Brew. At first, I was mainly doing recruiting roundups and smaller stories before Zach provided me the opportunity to receive a press credential and to cover the team in-person. Eventually, after a few years of doing that, I was fortunate enough to take over the Maize n Brew site as a Managing Editor/Publisher until I was brought on by Scout. I spent some time grinding away as a part-time guy until the Scout/24Sports merger happened and I was given a full-time role around 2016. It was something I had been working towards for year. After becoming a Managing Editor for the Michigan site on 247, I was honored to be approached by Josh Helmholdt and asked to take over the Michigan site as a publisher on November 1. I graciously accepted without hesitation.
I wanted to lead the Michigan site into the future for one reason only, the immense community The Wolverine has built over their time in the network. It’s not something that’s lost on me, I want to listen to the community and you have my word that I will take this responsibility to heart. You will have my maximum effort through the worst of the times and best of times.
I want to thank Chris Balas and John Borton, two staples in the Michigan market, for all of their hard work to build what I am inheriting today. Not to mention the staff that have worked tirelessly along side them. I hope to have the same caliber of staff that will work just as hard to continue to build a successful network of great people and great fans.
I want to make this clear: I am not here to make wholesale changes to the site and the community. The Fort is great because its fan led and fan driven. Your passion for Michigan is inspiring and my goal is to continue the tradition of excellence that came before me. Josh told me how important this community is to him and I fully grasp the scope of what this means to so many others as well. I am here for the long haul and I want it to be great, I have no other option.
While change can sometimes be tough, just know that this change will be new for my staff and I, too. All I ask is for your patience in the coming days as we get adjusted to things. We’re not trying to break traditions and we’re not trying to take away things you enjoy. We want to add our own little twist to things that you will enjoy.
Again, I am so excited to be here. I am looking forward to chatting with you all as football season is approaching its end and basketball season about to get underway.
