Fair or unfair, the heat on Harbaugh if he fails to win the Big Ten East this year will get significantly hotter. When you are the highest paid (or almost) coach in college football that is the expectation.
EDIT/CLARIFICATION: I am being rampantly misquoted in this thread so I am CLARIFYNG HERE. I did not say there SHOULD be pressure. I did not say I WANT him to be replaced. I did NOT say the administration has or will put JH on a hot seat. I predict that If he fails to win the Big10 East this year there WILL be a lot of pressure. If he fails to win the BigTen title by the end of 2018 there WILL be a LOT of pressure from fans, media, and most of all from JIM Harbaugh himself. I am not demanding that I am PREDICTING that. The most likely source of any change will be Jim Harbaugh himself. If you disagree I welcome your thoughts.
Higher Standards
By the standards of college football 10 wins is a good season. Multiple 10-win seasons is very good. However, the hard truth is that Harbaugh was not hired for good or even very good. He was hired to win the Big Ten Title. He was hired to get into the playoffs
To climb that mountain to the Big Ten title he must beat OSU, MSU, and PSU.
To get into the playoffs he must beat Wisconsin and perhaps Florida
Steeper Climb
The climb from 7 wins to 10 wins is tough. The climb from 10 wins to 11 wins might actually be tougher because you need to beat a top 10 team, perhaps on the road to do it.
2018 or Bust
What will be the mood of this board after another 10 win season? More importantly, what will be the mood of Jim Harbaugh after another 10 win season? If Harbaugh does not break through this year or next I suspect that there will be some soul searching and some hard decisions might get made.
I'm a huge Harbaugh fan. Completely satisfied, but it's not about me
Just my thoughts
