having 6 year old twins (will be 7 in Dec) can do that to even the strongest, right?

A little post game commentary:

I really see a lot of good things starting to come together...... I emphasize starting. We aren’t there but I have said consistently this O could be one of the best in the nation of it continues to expand, stretch and execute.

Shae is soooo good at making something happen when things look troublesome. The other players need to react properly whether it the OL, WRs or RBs, keep the play alive and then huge plays can happen against these elite teams coming up. It’s the definition of the DPJ TD. I have always been bullish on how much Shae can change the recent UM November performances, and every week i watch him play I get more bullish.

Solemn point: The loss of Gary, Solomon and now Dwumfour is tough to stomach on the surface. Coming out of spring they were three starters on the DL. Will have to wait to hear about Dwumfour bit it looks ominous. Gary amd Soloman hopefully will come back and be 100%. These losses are massive but as discussed can be a blessing in disguise as the season goes on. Why?

Improvement through necessity and adversity: Mone is being forced to play more downs, as is Paye, Kemp, etc. these kids will get better (yesterday was a great example as was NW). We need Mone when it comes to WI, PSU, MSU and OSU to be strong, Paye to be strong and Kemp to continue to improve and increased reps will do that. If all this works out, our DL running into Columbus can be much better than if we didn’t have these injuries imo which is really fun to think.

Quick hits. ......

Maryland was a tough team. Hats off to them. I really don’t like the hit on DPJ, it was cheap, it was bullshit and I wanted to target the MD LB myself . I still can’t believe the kid got up and made a key td 3 plays later. Unreal. I won’t be surprised if he is out next week, hope not, but that’s one of the toughest things I’ve seen a UM player do in all the years I’ve watched since mid 70s. It really says a lot about DPJ and his incredible toughness. Lead by example is how great teams are built. Chase, Mason, Shae, Bush and now DPJ are all great examples of this.

Maryland’s McFarland is a great runner, he will have a great career, we did a great job on all their RBs who are talented.

At one point the with I believe 4-5 minutes to go in the 3rd they showed the team stats and MD had 22 yards passing and 22 rushing. This was an O that had been very affective coming into the game. Nice job D.

Nico Collins. Can’t wait to see us hit him or his WR teammates in stride deep. He consistently this year has beaten his man deep, like a drum. It is the thing OSU does so well and with Patterson I think if they focus on that timing and qb/wr chemistry we will have some great big plays that are TDs not just 50yd gains in the future against some very good teams.

Gentry screen, loved the call, we had three OL in from of him reading to road grade if he went in the direction of the sideline but he cut inside towards an unblocked LB. hopefully that is different next time.

Higdon and Wilson blocking, this makes me really exited about them, hats off. Another demonstration of toughness and leading by example. That play where TE stoned the LB, then pancakes an off-balance DT to spring Paterson for a nice gain was awesome. Tip my hat again. To me Wilson is our #2 and should stay that way regardless of Evans’ health.

Maryland is a tough team. They have really tough LBs, they play the game how you want your LBs to play, minus the idiot PFs. They remind me a lot of Bush and Hudson. I hope our team looks at these targetings and learn from them. I have a terrible feeling of high risk as tough and hard as these kids play that a big game targeting penalty could really put us behind the 8ball. Something to watch, hopefully these kids continue to learn to use the shoulder and not hit the head when there is an option to go torso. Bc we will need them in the upcoming games to not lose their heads with the adrenaline and rage they will be feeling as the natural headhunters they both are. Play hard, tough and most importantly smart.

ND is continue to lend a hand to UM showing themselves as a seriously good team. That loss, as I said as nauseous this summer, will not hurt us or define our season in any way. I would love to see a rematch in the playofffs, it will be interesting to see if it can happen as we all know how crazy things get as the college football season goes through November. Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State can all lose at least once. UM controls their destiny.

I give MD a lot of credit, they play hard-nosed football and they are no joke. I give our team a lot of credit, this may have been the best game UM has played overall as in the Nebraska game the opponent quit in the 2nd qtr. not saying that’s not impressive but in this MD game we saw an opponent that never quit, fought like dogs and we faced adversity early on and throughout and never stopped through it all. Nice job, bring on the Badgers.
