I tend to be slightly Pollyanna by nature, but the Solomon exit, when viewed in the context of the Hudson transfer, is worrying.
Generally I don’t worry about guys leaving. You have 85 scholarship players, 20 get buried on the depth chart and don’t project to be on the 2-deep by their third years, and the ones from out of region have a tendency to look elsewhere.
But Solomon was a starter, and he and Hudson both projected to be starters next year. Guys in that situation don’t generally choose to sit out a year voluntarily.
Yet not only did they not stay around, but neither could even wait for the season to end to flee town, which suggests there was a degree of enmity between them and the program.
I’m a big believer in “once is a fluke, twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern.”
One more instance of “bad atttirion” and I’ll be very concerned about what’s going on at Schembechler Hall.
You could argue that Hill & Long both probably going pro after only 3 years despite neither currently being projected as a first or second round pick, is a little odd.
