Just checking in for my every-six-month-or-so post...... ChicagoBlueFan, who has infamously stated on numerous accasions that he could do a better job at Defensive Cooridinator than Greg Mattison, again looked like a complete tool this weekend.

Just as a reminder, here are four fun facts about Coach Mattison:

* Highly successful one time Defensive Coordinator for the NFL's Baltimore Ravens
* Hand selected by Jim Harbaugh as the only coach retained from the previous staff of Brady Hoke
* Recognized as one of the highest paid collegiate assistant coaches in the entire nation
* Served as D-Coordinator for Michigan in this weekend's Citrus Bowl, holding the SEC East Champion Florida Gators to a total of 7 points.
* (Here's a fun one): Called "The worst Defensive Coordinator in the country" by self-proclaimed internet college football expert ChicagoBlueFan on multiple occasions 2012 - 2015.

Apparently, fellow posters, we are in the presence of college football expertise that far exceeds that of even Michigan Coach Jim Harbaugh. ChicagoBlue, in the interest of the UM football program, you immediately need to contact Coach Harbaugh's office and personally expose Coach Mattison for the absolute liability that he is.......And report back to this board, letting us know how that conversation goes......... BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Never once said I know more than Harbaugh, but you seem to live in a different reality than the rest of us. Never said he's the worst DC, nor did I say I could do better. Your reading skills seem to be as bad as your memory. I don't like "26 seconds" as a DC, but making things up seems to be your style.
Harbaugh does like him so much that he demoted him from DC to D line coach, so you appear to have more of a ghey crush on him than JH does.
Funny that I'm in your head so much since my initial clowning of you. Remember-the one where you completely changed what you originally posted because you were so completely destroyed? Haaaa! Good times.

If Mattison was truly sustainably great, he would have been DC at Michigan but he's not. Mattison is a one trick pony that relied on FANTASTIC players but would fail to adjust - he was great at Baltimore because he had a world-class defensive squad with about 6 future HOF. After one year, teams figured out how to manage against his D when he was DC at Michigan. Mattison is a wonderful recruiter but I would say he has not evolved his coaching style and he was really the only option left after Durkin resigned.

Don't spoil his fantasies. He likes to forget how the great GM let a freshman QB drive for a game winning TD in 26 seconds, or how he held TUOS to 42 two consecutive years. He did hold them to only 350 rushing yards the one game, so that's some quality coaching.

I think Mattison said he enjoyed working with just a handful of players rather than an entire defensive unit. And remember that Hoke stuck him with such creative DB coaches as Manning.

tarun262, I have one word for you: GOOGLE. Search engines are your friend. Under Mattison as DC (during the Hoke regime), Mattison perennially produced top 5 nationally ranked defenses. You may want to look that up....BEFORE responding. That way, when you claim someone is a "one trick pony" you don't make yourself look like an absolute fool because, simply be definition, a "one trick poniy" does not succeed every single year. Think about thatt....I'll give you a minute......

The guy loves his stats, that's for sure. Try actually watching the games, too. It's fun.

ChicagoBlue......What national ranking did UM defenses finish that year? Oh, and please, try to listen to my advice once in a while. USE GOOGLE. It really can save you from some embarrassment. Let me help out first by correcting you: Michigan actually gave up 233 total rushing yards to OSU under Mattison as DC in 2014 (NOT "350"). Oh, and here's the punch line: The vaunted Alabama defense, gave up 281 yards to that exact same OSU squad in the NC Game. So, apparently now you are not only smarter than Greg Mattison, but now you would also make a better Defensive Coordinator than Kirby Smart, and I'm presuming in turn, a better Head Coach than Nick Saban. We here on this board are simply blessed to be in your midst, almighty one! Your self-confidence in football knowledge might only be surpassed by your utter incompetence. Repeat after me: Google FIRST, post messages SECOND. Again: Google FIRST, post messages SECOND. But truly, at the end of the day ChicagoBlue, your posts are pure comedic gold.

You never stated you would make a better DC than Mattison? Riiiiiiiiiight. That short term memory acting up again, Chicago? And the day you "clown" me will never happen. I've owned you since day one, and I love it. And you're in my head?????....... says the guy with NaplesGoBlue in his signature line for the last 10 years. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...............................PWNED. Absolutely PWNED.

.....Said the guy who quoted the incorrect stats in his original post and got called on it. Man, you're making this waaaaay to easy, Chicago. This whole internet debate thing just isn't your strong point, is it? Updated score: Me: 38, you: 0

You actually implied - no - actually STATED - that Jim Harbaugh has a "ghey crush" on Greg Mattison????????? You actually posted that? Wow. Here's an idea -- call coach Harbaugh and tell that directly to him, or better, yet, post that on his Facebook page. Then come back here, and let us all know how that goes. Better yet, I just screen captured that, and I may just post it over there for you......No need to thank me -- just trying to help get your message out.....Man, you really are not good at this whole electronic communications thing, are you?.......Keep posting, ChicagoBlue. Keep posting.

Wow, the ghey obsession is strong with this one.
I'm not sure if you've really convinced yourself that you didn't get clowned that first time. You may just be making things up again, no way to tell.
Maybe you should Google Mattison holding TUOS to 42 points twice in a row. The game where he held them to 350 yards rushing was particularly impressive. Maybe Google the Indiana game where they scored on almost every possession. That was strong work.
Possibly Google the BWW bowl where he held K St to TDs on their first three possessions. That was awesome work, too.
OK, I'm done crushing you for now. Please get smarter. You're not very good at this whole thinking and reasoning thing.

Do you always revert to the word "ghey" when you get worked on the internet? It's always your comeback, and I find it both interesting and a little disturbing, and yet comical at the same time. (By the way, be sure to check JH's Facebook by mid-week -- that quote you made should be getting a LOT of play time on there). As far as the "got clowned" thing - your evaluation of your past performance is as amusing as it is perplexing, I've owned you for 10 years, and have the deed to prove it. In fact, if you have any doubt, just read our last 5 posts or so -- you are so far out of your league you can't see the f-ing stadium. But I digress. We can put a merciful end to the current beat down I'm putting on you very easily -- Just simply answer this question: You obviously think Greg Mattison sucks. Jim Harbaugh - who has full control of the UM program - consciously chose to retain Mattison on his staff. Sooooo. ChicagoBlue, we have a discrepancy. Now, based on these polar opposite views of Greg Mattison, are YOU a better assessor of CFB coaching talent or is Jim Harbaugh? Real easy. Answer YES, or NO. (Oh, and unfortunately your assessment that JH has a "ghey crush" on Mattison, won't work, so you're actually going to have to use some semblance of intellect -- which should be quite interesting). I just want to determine the extent of your delusion. Again. Real simple. You have a 180 degree opinion from JH on Mattison. So, one of you is obviously completely wrong. So, YES, or NO -- are you a better assessor of CFB coaching talent or is Jim Harbaugh? I'll eagerly await your answer. (Something tells me I'll hear either (a) crickets, or (b), something with the word "ghey" in it). Oh, and please don't be "done crushing" me......I can take it. BWAHAHAHAHAHA! You crushing me.......Okay. You just might need to dry off before posting again -- these floors I'm mopping you with are really damp.

Naples you win - Greg Mattison for President. Clearly you and some other sites that be searched on any search engines have it right and the rest of the folks, including Jim Harbaugh are clueless. Start a petition "Mattison for DC" and I will sign it for you since your arguements are SO strong.

Also since you are so into stats etc, let's take a look at a few things:

2014
  • 34 points given up to Notre Dame
  • 26 points to Rutgers
  • 35 to MSU
  • 23 to Maryland
  • 26 to Utah
  • 30 to Minnesota
  • 42 to Ohio State
That's 30 points per game given up by his defense in the 7 losses. Now 14 of those points were given up by Gardner so even if you remove that - 28 points given up that awesome defense of Mattison.

2013
  • 30 points given up to Notre Dame
  • 24 points to Akron (7 by Gardner)
  • 21 to Uconn (7 by Gardner)
  • 43 to Penn State (7 by Gardner)
  • 47 to Indiana
  • 29 to Michigan State
  • 24 to Iowa
  • 42 to Ohio State
Even if you remove the Gardner stats in those meaningful games the D gave up 30 points per game!!! So yeah if you want to count wins like Central Mich and App State feel free to do so.

Next time you throw random statements like "search Google" you may want to go deeper then just looking at superficial stats on ESPN. Try looking to each game archives.

But like I said - you win, Mattison is awesome and Jim Harbaugh is clueless - we should fire him while we have the chance!

chicagobluefan will come up with some kind of excuse, petty reply as always.

Facebook? Really-are you a 12 year old girl?
Quick recap-Harbaugh has had 2 opportunities at UM to hire your crush Mattison as DC. He's passed both times. So that would be 0-2 for you.
Apparently you know more about football than JH-I suggest you contact him (better yet, drive to A2) and show him how wrong he is to keep not hiring Mattison. You could show him how Google is his friend and convince him of his apparent mistake.
This isn't going well for you. I'm not sure if this tops the time you were clowned so thoroughly that you went back and completely changed your initial post, but it's close.
I get that you resent not being as smart as everyone else, but stupid and angry is no way to go through life.
Maybe you can check back in during the season and tell us how wrong JH is for not having Mattison as DC. Haaaa! Good times...

Not much use trying to reason with this guy, he is convinced he knows more than JH. I think he said he plays a lot of Coleco electric football or something. Plus, Google is his friend.
Harbaugh keeps not hiring his dream candidate for the DC job. What is he thinking?
