Michigan just put the finishing touches on a strong 3-0 day for today.
It started with Michigan Field Hockey on the road against Iowa. Wasn't their best performance of the year at all, but they found a way to get it done. Scoring 2 goals on just 3 shots, they escaped with a 2-1 victory over a pesky Iowa team. The win secures their continued spot in the Top 10 and keeps their Big Ten Championship hopes alive.
The women's soccer team was next with what was essentially a must win game for their tourney hopes, and a game against arch rival OSU to boot. As they have all season it was the Martin-Hernandez connection that got the job done. Martin slid a perfect cross to Hernandez for a goal midway through the second half to provide the only score in a 1-0 win for Michigan. Team still has a way to go for a tourney birth, but plenty of reasons to think the future is bright for what is a pretty young team on the whole.
And the biggest win of the day came with the nightcap from Michigan Volleyball. The #16 Wolverines were hosting the #14 Boilermakers, and they straight up blew them out of the building. Not only was it a 3-0 sweep, but none of the games were remotely close. Michigan hit well over .400 for the day which, for those of you who don't follow volleyball, is about the same as a basketball team hitting 15 of 20 3's in one game. Best win of the season for the team by far. Skojdt, Jones and Wetterstrom are as good of an outside hitting trio as Michigan has had in quite some time.
Throw in a Men's Soccer win over Oakland earlier in the week, and it was a perfect week heading into the weekend. Good chance that Michigan will have 3 of these 4 teams in the top 15 next week.
