he played in a local tournament against Sylvania Southview. this was probably the most entertaining high school game ive ever watched. big runs by both teams, overtime and some big shots. very fun to watch. heres my thoughts on Zeb himself
-Lanky guard for sure, super skinny but long arms. higher ceiling as a point guard but could easily play the 2 for us as well.
-has the willingness to defend, which to me is half the battle when it comes to playing good defense. gotta have that fire to do it. Southview had only one kid above 6"1", and he was the guard that Zeb had to defend. turned out to be a nice on court battle. some jawing back and forth it was fun to watch. feel like that kid could play somewhere, mac school maybe? he got zeb a couple of times on drives but it was still a good test for him
-Southview played what i think was a 1-3-1 zone most of the game. really limited zeb from taking it to the basket. but it also forced him to shoot a bunch of threes, which i think he made 5 or 6 of. a couple from DEEP. a good sign for the future. he has a really nice shot.
-going down the stretch, whether it be in overtime or in regulation. Zeb had a chance to tie the game or take the lead really late three different times. one three he forced and missed badly, the other two were layups that rimmed out. felt bad for the kid because im sure he makes those in his sleep. i was just happy to see him take the ball to the rack with the game on the line instead of forcing a deep jumper like so many players do.
- with him being a lankier point guard i do worry a little about his ball handling. its just a little loose when theres pressure. he needs to keep his dribble lower so he doesnt get his pocket picked. something easily correctable with practice.
-overall theres a lot to be excited about. kid can do it all. for his own good i hope he transfers to a bigger school next year so he can play against taller competition more often. it will only help for down the road and better prepare him for when he arrives in ann arbor
