Disagree. Have you ever heard him play bass? Flip on the headphones and listen to his innovative style on songs like, "Something" or, "Rain". He and Lennon are viewed as the most successful songwriters in history for good reason and even after The Beatles, he still wrote some very good songs, although i'd agree with you that those pale in comparison and that is an ode to Lennon's leadership in telling him, "NO!" McCartney has been voted best bass player many times throughout the 60's and 70's by Rolling Stone for a reason and it wasn't popularity.
