Jim needs to quit being so stubborn with the playcalling and start catering to Shea's talents. Throw away the scripted plays and calls in certain down/yardage situations. Let Shea do his thing. There will be some turnovers and negative plays, but the good will far outweigh the bad.
Also need to not only change the route schemes, but also give the receivers the freedom to improvise. On one play in the first half, Shea was moving to his right out of the pocket. Gentry was running about a 10 yard crossing route from right to left against a NW zone. Shea was ready to zip one to Gentry, but instead of Gentry just cutting off his route and sitting down in the huge opening of the zone, he continues his route away from Shea and right toward the defender. If Gentry stops in that opening, that's a first down and probably a 15-20 yard gain. I think later Gentry did improvise and came back toward Shea, which resulted in a key first down.
Harbaugh just needs to trust his QB more. Stop settling for 3rd and 3. Let Shea do his thing and get the receivers on board with it. Mix in some hurry-up offense. ESPECIALLY on the road. Might help with overcoming these slow starts.
