He’s done solid work as off coordinator since midseason last year- the fumbling and rb pass pro derailed first 6 games. he’s a fantastic recruiter and one of top young black coaches in country. A rising star. Possible Harbaugh successor if/when.

His work as WR coach needs to dramatically improve. He obviously didn’t build a good relationship with DPJ (left early) or Collins (not coming back) even though they were his most talented players. He force fed bell too much last year as punishment for dpj and Collins not playing hurt in spring practice and although bell played ok he wasn’t at the talent level of 9/4 -bell was not able to win games for Michigan even as most targeted wr. Not his fault his wr coach wanted all balls thrown to him. He got snatched from behind bunch times ie (wisconsin breakaway TD) had bunch of drops in first 3 games. Gattis finally started throwing ball to 9/4 when they were being blown out by badgers and low and behold he realized they could catch the ball. Dpj and Collins should have been all Americans in 2019 but need coaches to dial you up if that is ever to happen.

That said Bell will probably have great numbers this year and go first team big10 because he said his speed has gotten much better.

McElwain knew who to target in 18 and had his guys playing elite (not one drop entire season I can recall).

it’s tough to run the entire offense and coach a highly skilled position like wideouts - they only have so many hours per week. Perhaps Harbaugh will make change next season and have gattis run offense and the QBs (a more natural combo) and get a designated wr coach (or move McDaniels back to that position as last resort)
