In many ways, football is still a somewhat simple sport.

Their OL completely shut down our pass rush.

We could not run the ball, and our pass blocking was shaky.

We have two good corners, but not three. Watson regressed to being the Watson of 2016.

You can’t cover crossing routes with safeties. Maybe with Daxton Hill, but not with ours.

We needed to get Thomas, and maybe even Sims, some meaningful playing time this year and needed to be able to use them today.

At the half, I texted several friends, “We need Jim to pull a Pete Carroll here and say the next guy to call a run is fired.”

It’s fine to want to run the ball. You have to abandon it when your defense can’t stop
the other team and the run is not working.

In a game like this, players have to make plays. The one guy who really showed up was Nico. DPJ was good, too. Gentry was not. Runyan was not (and I still believe Hudson and Mayfield were needed in this game).

The turning point, really, was when we got a stop at 24-19 and went three and out. Brutal.

Moving forward, we missed a shot to hire Matt Canada. We need someone like him.

I’m not one of those people who think, “if not now, when?” Anyone who thinks that significantly underrates home field advantage, and those fans were fired up. I believe we will beat ND next year, and if Haskins leaves (he should), OSU too.

We do, IMO, need to win our bowl game and get to 11 this year.

Finally, I really hope this does not resonate too much with Zach Harrison. We shall see.

A win over UNC on Wednesday would make me quite happy.
