Overlooked is the fact that PSU is a bunch of junkyard dogs who played as hard as any team we will see but our boys turned up the intensity, too. Credit Juwan for this new mindset.
The box-out issues are real but that can be taught.
I love Chaundee's effort on defense. If he can dial back a bit on the offensive end and not force it he will get more minutes. I see him as a guy who can hit the offensive glass and get the occasional open look.
Brandon Johns just lacks game awareness...the ability to keep the game running in one's head to know where all the teammates and opponents are at every moment. (Joe Milton doesn't have it either.). I don't know if anticipation is something that coaches are able to teach. But Larry Bird said he never practiced without an imaginary opponent guarding him. Brandon could learn something from that.
Refs don't like Franz and he needs to realize that and control his whining. He's our best competitor on the court but he lacks a down-low game and can disappear on offense. He is an excellent driver when the opponent isn't ready for it but that's only 2-3 times per game in the B10 games. He long-term needs to develop a quicker, higher release on his threes, too.
Imagine if Hunter were here when Burke or Stauskas or Xavier were on the team. The high pick and roll would have been world class.
This was huge win. PSU is going to pull some upsets this year and I'm glad they didn't get us today.
