*** Another week, another blowout. Last Friday, we saw West Bloomfield blow out Oak Park, 39-0. This week, it was Belleville picking up a nice 69-0 win over Dearborn Fordson. This one was over from the start, and it dragged on the rest of the first half. Belleville was airing it out all night, with their quarterback throwing for seven touchdown passes. The Tigers, led by head coach Jermain Crowell, were aggressive all evening, even going with pooch and onside kicks while winning by a substantial margin.
*** Of course, Belleville is home to a number of top prospects, and that talent won out last night. Alabama defensive tackle commit Damon Payne was all over the field, harassing the quarterback and even notched an interception with a 10-yard return. Penn State linebacker commit Jamari Buddin was also impressive, anchoring the defense, filling holes and pursuing the ball with a vengeance.
*** That leads us to 2022 Rivals100 DB Myles Rowser. He played safety all night, and didn't get much action. We wrote this after watching Rivals250 ATH Dillon Tatum last week, but it applies again here: The one thing we would've liked to see more out of Rowser was opportunity. The Belleville defensive front was dominant, and we'd guess Fordson probably had negative total yards on the night. Needless to say, the ball rarely got out of the quarterback's hands. When it did come Rowser's way, he locked down his man.
*** In run defense, Rowser also made a few plays, coming up with some hits on the outside and leveraging the ball well. But again, there just wasn't much action for him.
*** Seeing the aforementioned Tatum one week before evaluating Rowser gives us a unique perspective and allows us to compare the two. We were much more impressed with Tatum as far as his athletic ability. He is much more versatile, and was able to play wide at corner, in the slot and off the line of scrimmage as a nickel/safety.
*** That's not a negative when it comes to Rowser. He was still impressive and played with very good technique. He's certainly a safety prospect, and played that position, even though the former Michigan commit is listed as a cornerback on Rivals.
*** Last thing on Rowser: He's moved around quite a bit, transferring from Belleville to Detroit King last season, before heading to IMG this summer and then ultimately returning to Belleville. But he told us after the game these guys are his "brothers," and he feels comfortable and right at home playing at Belleville. That was obvious throughout the entirety of the game. He was one of the top leaders on that defense, always pointing guys in the right direction pre-snap. And in a game where there was a lot of trash talk and pushing and shoving after the play, we never saw Rowser involved with any of it.
*** On to 2022 three-star OL Ka'Marii Landers out of Fordson. We can't stress enough how tough of a matchup this was for he and Fordson's offensive line. On the first possession, Payne drove Landers back, and he ended up on his back.
*** Landers is a big lineman at 6-4, 295, and played left tackle most of the night. There were some special packages where he moved over to the right side once or twice, but he was by far their top pass protector and was on the left side. He got beat around the edge a few times, which obviously violates rule No. 1 as a tackle, but this was a very tough matchup. Landers is intriguing, but he didn't show a ton that impressed on Friday night.
