A penalty late in the first, will have OSU starting the second on the power play, about 1:40ish of PP time to start that second period.

Maybe best period of Michigan hockey of the season. Let's see if they can maintain it for two more periods. That's been the problem all year; no consistency from period to period, game to game.

Well after two periods it's Michigan 5, OSU 1.

They have played two solid periods of hockey, one more to go.

The second was the Cooper Marody period. He scored his first goal of the season to put Michigan up 3-0. OSU scored a power play goal to make it 3-1. The Marody scored a power play goal for Michigan less than a minute later and Michigan was up 4-1. Marody finished things off with another power play goal late in the period to make it 5-1.

Another penalty by Michigan in the final minute of the period so OSU will have 1:20ish of power play time to start the third.

Can they maintain this intensity level for 20 more minutes?

Just to nit pick a bit. Too many odd man rushes against in that period and too many defensive zone face off losses which led to the only goal they gave up. Still, as you said, a solid period and a breath of fresh air compared to how they have played most of the season.

Having said that, two horrendous goals given up to start the third.

No kidding. What a horrible way to start the third period in a game you had under control. And then another power play goal and it's 5-4

Yep, they have reverted back to their bad habits, poor goaltending, bad penalty, breakaway although it was stopped, leaving guys alone in front of the net, etc,. Let's hope they hang on.

Well they hung on, two pretty solid periods followed by a horrendous period that saw OSU score 2 goals in the periods first 17 seconds, then they added another in the final five minutes to make it 5-4.

They couldn't score another as Michigan hung on for a 5-4 win.

I guess I will say we are versatile - 2 of our best periods and our worst period of the season in the same game. . . . .

However - this was pretty typical of UM - OSU games over the last several seasons.

These two teams bring out the worst in each other. Last year it was like 80's Oilers and Black Hawks games
