watching the highlights of MAAR and there is no disputing he has a great handle and quickness.

JB should make him a pg. The problem with MAAR going forward is he is arguably the first guard or forward that was recruited by JB who can't shoot a lick.

Walton wasn't overly impressive in high school but I am assuming JB thinks he can get him average or just loves his quickness. Kid can ball but in the Big Ten..its not going to be Euro or AAU ball. Maybe he becomes sort of a change up for JB when he needs to break a press or get to the rim.

Who knows but for all the love by fans for MAAR...I don't see how he is going to score. LeVert is the most similar player but he developed his perimeter game and defenders have to respect his ability to pull up for the jumper.

The book is going to come out on MAAR and while he is on the floor 'they' are just going to sag off him. Maybe he does get redshirted when you have LeVert, Walton and Albrecht. He is a project.

Reaction? Maybe a defensive stopper? Specialty player for JB?

MAAR shot 39% on threes, 81 on Fts with over 100 3's attempted

His senior season.

Can't say that falls in the cant shoot a lick category, and I'd welcome teams backing off. His shot does look a little slow at this point on the spot up. But, that's getting nitpicky when attacking the hoop is his strength.

How about this view...why all the drives? He is good at it..

Yes.

Maybe he can't shoot from the perimeter (confidence? execution?)..but the bottom line is he isn't even looking to shoot. Teams will scout.

I watched those tapes..he can't shoot. He can shoot floaters and in the lane shots but unfortunately a bigger player will be hanging around to swat those things. I see a specialty player going forward. I have no problem with him being a role player but don't see the excitement some see with him.

As another poster asked..why so far under the radar? Guy is like the tazmanian devil. He is quick with nice handles. Must be a reason. Nice vision too.

He will develop his jumpshot. I like him much more than Dawkins. Dawkins is an undersized 3/4 with no ball skills.

Why all the drives? Because he was getting to the rack (video)

I am not predicting one way or the other with MAAR, but your assessment of his shooting ability makes little sense.

This isn't some guy that shot 25 3's and made 10. He shot over 100 and made over 40. In a high school season that is probably getting near 2 of 5 per game.

As for under the radar, so was Novak, Caris, Spike, Doyle, etc etc.

Shooting isn't his first option, but it's an option.

All about knowing your role. Watch the attached video, if anything his stroke is better than his 40% had he taken better shots.

Maar

Another dumb post.

Did you ever see Walton play in high school?

Walton finished 2nd in the Michigan Mr Basketball voting, I believe, and was the PG for a Final Eight team as a frosh at UM -- shooting the ball very well along the way.

But he hasn't been very impressive?

I thought Walton wasn't overly impressive shooting the ball..

in high school film. Didn't clarify that properly. I know Walton worked hard on this aspect of his game although he didn't have a particulary great Euro trip.

Was lazy on my comment..it was meant to say Walton wasn't an very good shooter and now JB might be able to make Maar into a good shooter sort of like Walton.

Thanks for noticing the error.
