For all the talk about penalties, fg's, OL...

if you watch the Lewis int...something occurred which is the BIGGER problem against better passing teams.

You ask what? Watch Thomas...he is covering the ball deep on the Stribling side and then goes over to the Lewis side but he is 10 yards away for a pass that could have gone all the way.

It's the safety play deep that is going to primarily kill us against OSU. The safety mistake adds up to 7 pts whereas fg's in theory add up to 3 pts per kick. Wisconsin didn't have the horses to beat UM long but somebody like big play guy from MSU may hurt UM.

If I had to rank the issues for this team after today...

1. Safety play. Nobody knows how to protect the long ball on this team.
2. FG's. Disaster but Harbaugh will adjust and just not kick fg's
3. OL had some penalties but see this aspect of the team improving. The rb's are doing the job and did an okay job against Wiscy
4. Speight does get rid of the ball late and better teams are going to make him pay. Let's see how he develops and play on the road.

OSU will win this game right now by 14 pts. I am not saying UM isn't a very good team. They clearly have a lot going for them but this team isn't going to win a shootout vs. the explosive teams and it's safety play is a significant question mark.

Check out that last play MSU vs. Indiana.

There you go. Give up big plays against OSU/Clemson/Alabama...done.

Yeah thank god you aren't a coach. Game to game things change. It's how it goes. One game at a time. You are a terrific armchair QB, however

Here is a post from another site. Another arm chair qb/coach.

I was at the game, I couldn't tell, was there no safety back on 4th and 10 on that Lewis pick? Gotta be a blown assignment. Here has to be a safety back on that play?

I said the same thing on that play. But where I somewhat disagree, is that you keep saying "when we play better teams"! How many better teams we going to play? You talk like we just beat Rutgers. That long pass that sparty made had indianas front 7 on the field, not Don Browns! Enjoy that M won another today buy overcoming some huge frustrations. JH will correct most of the issues or die trying. GO BLUE

Wisconsin is a very good team but a mediocre passing team.

You are correct...I should say better passing teams. I stand corrected. I just can't for the life of me understand why a safety would not want to protect a big pass play. Some safeties get 'it'. Wilson was good. But some guys like Thomas or remember Chuck Winters want to play lb'er and not safety. They are too aggressive for the safety position.
