1. 10 days or so to Illinois. Rest up Walton. Get him healthy. You are going to need a healthy Walton.

2. Talk to Irvin. He is launching way too many 3 pointers. Why? I don't understand? Why?

3. Re-structure offense to have Donnal doing most of his work outside. Period.

4. Chatman is really hurting this team right now. He needs to be either moved to 'roll'. He has the game to work around the basket and use his 'talent' to drive and cut but him playing the #4 in this offense....it's not going to work. He is the polar opposite of GR3 and his talent.

JB is running the same offense based on different players from last year.

5. Go to zone and consider moving Irvin to the #4. Get Dawkins some play at the #3.

Let me bottom line this for JB. I know he doesn't need some advice from RM. This system is based on an effective perimeter offense. It's that simple. The shots don't fall then you are in trouble. The defense isn't going to win games for this program consistently. They win by outscoring their opponents.

They put pressure on opponents with the 3 ball and easy back door baskets, etc. It's that simple. Unless JB gets some production from the #4 and #5 to offset Morgan and GR3...it ain't going to happen. Walton is not Burke. Irvin is not THJ. LeVERT is not Stauskas.

They need help. They are pressing. JB is going to have to consider a radical jump start to this team. I believe this team can get going. I see the talent but it's not being tailored to the talent. Better performance today but JB is going to have to either bench Chatman or get him out of the #4 position.

Another bottom line. This team would be better off with Dawkins hitting 2 out of 7 three balls and turning the ball over a couple of times or even doing some highlight dunks on occasion. It would be better off losing some things defensively because once this team gets 12-18 pts from the #4 and #5 then the other guys will relax.

A drastic change needs occur right now. Right now. There are enough data points so far. JB is going to have to do whatever it takes to get more points from the frontline and give up some defense.

Stauskas and Burke were as effective as they were because they had GR3, Morgan, etc

Walton is no Burke but I see Irvin and Levert as better than Stauskas and THJR.

The issue is we have no finishers at the rim and teams can aggressively play the perimeter, hence all the contested jumpers.

There are also way less knock down shooters on this team.

No PnR, no drive and dish = bad offense

I see the problem as slightly different...with an effective #4..

it allows the floor to open up for LeVERT penetrating...one on one. I guess moving Irvin to the #4 and going small would allow Irvin to get to the hole.

When teams are slacking off the #4 in this offense then defenses can collapse easier or 'cheat' over to LeVERT.

When I watch teams it looks like there is a 'bias' toward LeVERT and on some level to Walton. An effective #4 means teams are more concerned about the 3 ball and won't collapse on LeVERT and Walton who can penetrate.

Watch this team..other than LeVERT...the shots are there for the taking. They just need someone to know em down (Donnal) and the offense will start flowing.

P.S. Irvin/LeVERT better as a combo than Stauskas/THR...not consistently. I wouldn't go that far. Maybe more upside.

This is good advice. JB is an offensive minded coach; he's got to see that his problems are on that side of the court. He's not going to stand pat. Just not sure that the talent is really there to get the needed production when conference play starts.

Walton
Levert
Irvin
Donnal
Doyle

starting 5?

I agree that Donnal needs to shoot more. Would be nice if Doyle didn't fumble every pass, too.

I think that is one lineup I would consider...

along with moving Chatman to the #5 and have him set picks and then roll.

Bottom line...Irvin, LeVERT and Walton needs help offensively. Trade defense for offense to jump start this offense.
