With Scarlett out indefinitely, the team’s No. 1 back becomes sophomore Lamical Perine. A four-star recruit rated the No. 11 running back of 2016, Perine logged 91 carries for 421 yards and a touchdown last season. In game two against Kentucky, Perine posted a season-high 17 carries for 105 yards. He topped that performance in rushing yards against Missouri, when he carried the ball 11 times for 106 yards. He also cracked double-digit rushes against North Texas (11 carries, 57 yards) and Georgia (15 carries, 33 yards).

Perine will likely receive the most carries on Saturday against Michigan, but expect Thompson and freshman Malik Davis to also be part of the rotation. Thompson carried the ball 68 times for 299 yards and two touchdowns last season. His season high for number of carries came against Kentucky (15 carries, 59 yards, TD). Thompson’s highest single-game rushing total came the following week against North Texas, when he ran 11 times for 85 yards and a touchdown. His other double-digit carry game was against Missouri (10 carries, 65 yards).
