It's clear the defense can keep us in any game and gives us a shot to win no matter how the offense plays. John O'Korn will play better than he did yesterday - the weather of course was not ideal, and other than OSU, we won't be playing a defense who will perform better than MSU did yesterday.
We will play more overall talented defenses, but that MSU defense is rated top 10, and they play like a top 3 defense against us no matter the guys they put out there. I like our chances offensively more against Penn State and Wisconsin in normal conditions. What does that mean, 17 points? 20 points? Think either gives us a shot to win.
The big thing I took from last night's game is it simply means we're due for a break - we will either win 1 of 3 or 2 of 3 of PSU, Wisky and OSU
If we lose to Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota or Rutgers, the wheels are officially off the bus
You're either 9-3 or 10-2 if you hold serve vs the lesser teams - yes Sparty is a lesser team, but they play us tougher than anyone else in the country
10-2 gets you in the top 10 and a NE6 bowl, 9-3 gets you at the outback bowl vs some 2nd tier SEC school
It's not the season anyone dreamed of, but it's pretty much what you would expect if you guessed our second with your head and not your heart. I hope we look back at this offense in 3 years and gasp at who was playing and what it looked like
If Harbaugh is here for 15 years, we will have a winning record vs MSU, and a .500 or better record vs OSU - he will win 4-5 to B10 titles and play for 2 national titles.
I was one who just assumed he would win 10 straight B10 titles and 4 national titles - he's an elite coach, but he doesn't yet have elite results to show for it
BO never won a NC, and struggled in the Rose Bowl and he's the face of the program - Harbaugh will have more success than him, but the expectations for Jimmy are simply too high
If he wins 30 games in his first 3 year that's outstanding - think he needs to avoid 0-3 vs Urban Meyer - if he beats Penn State he's 3-0 vs them - that's a top 10 program right now - he's 2-0 vs Florida
Sure you want to beat the puss out of little bro and hold your own vs OSU, but it's not end of the world - coaching and results are about streaks - John L Smith, Cooper happened, similar results will happen in the future, and similar streaks
I try to look at this as a 15 year window - treat it like a stock - yesterday was not a fun day and the stock dropped - people will jump off and sell - good, more shares at a better cost for me. I think it's ok to give up on seasons and be frustrated and take a break if you need one - think long-term, enjoy the era, not the game or season
