Final thoughts after a surprisingly relaxing and accepting night

First, I will say this again. The worst part for me is that this didn't hurt enough. At 38 I have begun to forget what beating OSU even feels like and now I have just come to assume the loss and accept it as we get out coached and out played. I have come to accept that the top teams get the best Jimmy's and Joes along with the best X's and O's. But after a calm night, I just want to see one thing happen.

Get an offensive coordinator. Don't give me this stupid crap about how it's Harbaugh's offense and then we use a running game and a passing game coordinator. Who else does that? In fact, I am not even sure the coaches have a good grasp on the plan. Think back to the summer with Jim M and Pep H were asked about being the offensive coordinator, they basically both shrugged their shoulders and said it was the other guy. How does that make any sense?

Now since Harbaugh refuses to answer the question around who calls the plays, this next part is just my view of what I think might be happening. I see many comments about how slow we are on offense to break the huddle and get to the line of scrimmage. I remember watching the ND game and telling those around me how we are playing like we had the lead not a team down two scores. All season it was like that. Also, think of the waste of time that caused us to not score going into half against IU. Also, all the runs up the middle that get nothing when it seems like that's the last play you should call. Here's what could be happening... There are 40 seconds from the time the ball is blown dead and set. So think about this. Say it takes Harbaugh 7 seconds to decide run or pass. I assume that then goes to the designated running or passing coordinator who say then takes another 7 seconds to decide what to do. Right there you are down to 40-14= 26 seconds. Then let's say it's 5 seconds to get back to the on field signal caller and to the QB. That leaves you with 21 seconds. The QB then spends 10 seconds in the huddle discussing the play and verifying understanding. That breaks the huddle with 11 seconds. 11 seconds to get lined up, set, and review the defense. Not a lot of time.

With one single person calling the plays I feel like we could be what we see from almost all other top programs. After a play ends, they get lined up and await the call from the sideline. Then they have 30 seconds or so to call audibles or adjust based on the defensive sets.

Also, how many times have we heard anonymous coaches or players talk about how easy it is to defend us and how there is no creativity? Could that be the result of the fact that by the time we line up we have just a few seconds to snap? No time for audibles or creative changes at the line of scrimmage.

Jimmy, if you truly are being honest and you are going to go back to the drawing board to ensure this never happens again, then get a offensive coordinator. One true person who is responsible for making the calls. Right or wrong, good or bad result, just one person to help this team. My biggest fear and the reason it doesn't hurt like it should, I don't think Harbaugh sees this as a problem.
