Averaging 38.3 points per game and 18.6 rebounds per game. It's somewhat understandable that he finished behind Oscar Robertson....

Who averaged 30.8 PPG, 12.5 RPG and 11.4 APG (averaging a triple double for the year). But, Oscar didn't win either, because Wilt....

Averaged 50.4 PPG and 25.7 RPG, which feels sorta unbeatable, except he didn't win either, since Bill Russell....

Averaged a measly 18.9 PPG, but 23.6 RPG, and was defensive POY while winning the championship with the Celtics.

Tough year to be competing for that trophy

I always thought that Anthony Carter got the toughest draw in any MVP (type) contest when the 1982 Heisman Trophy vote put him fourth behind Herschel Walker, John Elway and Eric Dickerson, but - man - that 61/62 race in the NBA was brutal.
