This is early evidence that the vaccine works in the healthcare setting. This is a report from UT-SW.
If you compare the non-vaccinated to the fully vaccinated, the 2 denominators are fairly similar. The reduction in cases is from 234 down to 4, a reduction of >98%!
This is effectiveness (real world) not efficacy (trial). We usually expect effectiveness to be lower than efficacy, but in this report, it’s holding up. That’s a pleasant surprise and very reassuring.
(Caveat: few VOC and one would expect masking/eyewear to be consistent in a healthcare setting)
This data should be shown to anyone, healthcare worker or not, who is still hesitant about taking the vaccine.
(Also, similar reports in the same Journal issue for both Hadassah in Israel and UCSD/UCSF. Israel experience did comment on B117)
