Yeah, the Livers news sucks...but on the flipside, U of M was completely dominant yesterday across the board. Along with putting Maryland basketball in it's place, almost every other team in action won yesterday.
Baseball smashed Purdue 9-1. It's early, but they are currently tied for 1st in the Big Ten.
The Michigan women's soccer team destroyed MSU 7-3. Game was tied at 2 midway through the second half, then Michigan scored 5 goals in about 16 minutes. Completely broke Sparty's will.
The women's gymnastics team put up a school record score of 198.1 yesterday. For context, only 2 other teams have put up a better score than that all season, and each only did it once. Wojick, Brooks and Wilson are as good a trio of gymnasts as you'll find anywhere in the country.
The field hockey team, despite being outshot 13-2, somehow managed to escape with a 1-0 win on the road at Iowa. Keeps the team undefeated on the young season.
And the volleyball team earned a hard fought win over Indiana in 5 sets as they work to keep their postseason hopes alive. No Michigan team has had their season disturbed by Covid more than the volleyballers. Last night was Indiana's 15th game. It was Michigan's 6th. If they make the postseason with all the disruptions to their schedule while playing in the loaded Big Ten it will be damn impressive.
Only blemish yesterday was the softball team, who lost in extras to Nebraska. Honestly, their season is just about trying to make the tourney and keeping their postseason streak of making the tourney for a gazillion straight years alive. I don't know if this team has much of a higher ceiling than that.
Another year, another trove of ranked Michigan teams at or near the top of the Big Ten standings.
