So I got home back to Annapolis yesterday , after spending Sunday with my family and sister and her husband ( they are Lions fans and I won't go there ) . I have to tell you that if the game was not bad enough , I am in the airport ( watching every damn Spartan fan walk by , and they all are laughing and happy as hell , and it seems like they were laughing at us in our M gear I swear ) and then I get a fantasy
football update that Gronk is out . This gets added on to the fact that I have Matt Ryan and Julio Jones on bye week and lost Dalvin Cook last week ( not making this up ). My backup QB ? Big Ben .
I replaced Julio with ???? Sammy Watkins . I am in 2 weekly pools . One if you win , nets you about 4500 ( lost by 1 ) and the other you win 300 ( lost on the tiebreaker as I had 41 and the other guy had 40 last night ). I mean you cant make this shit up .......oh and I twisted my knee at the game and it hurts like hell .
Now to other things . When I heard we hired JH I literally had tears in my eyes . My first thoughts were , " Finally we have our guy ". I have to say my oldest son called me as soon as he heard the news , as he is a huge fan as well , to tell me 2 things . The first was , " Happy Birthday Dad " as it was December 30th , and then, " We hired Harbaugh ! " . I was just so happy .......My thoughts were finally that a-- hole in E Landfill will get his , and the other idiot in Cbus was being put on notice ...... we are BACK ! Hell we had even lost to Maryland , which I had taken endless crap for .......now
we were headed back to being an elite football program .
I now just want to say , that 3 years later I didn't think I would have witnessed 2 MSU games like I did . Front and center , and having dinner in Knights Steakhouse 2 years ago , there were a group
of players there eating dinner , and one of them starting talking to me and I could just tell he was just crushed . He told me when I asked , that he was the gunner on the M side of the field on the punt team . He still kinda sounded dazed . Maybe I should have sensed then what was coming in the near future .
I sit here today and just wonder just how long it will take for things to change . Like many of you I talk to alot of " football guys " , former coaches , a few former M players , and I cannot say that anyone thought this program would be where it is now , and by that I mean the uncertainty in so many areas . I know most thought by this year we would be challenging for the Big 10 Championship , and I really don't think anyone does now . I would say that most think the offense is in such disarray , they don't know how long it will take . I know one former player said that in todays game you NEED to have stability at QB and whether its Wilton OR O'Korn neither is it .
I know we feel good about the receivers , and yes the line is young , but we did go through this with the previous O line , saying each year , " they are young " . I also wonder where is our next Harlan Huckleby , Butch Woolfolk , Jamie Morris , Chris Perry , Anthony Thomas , Stan Edwards ,Timmy B , Rob Lytle , Tyrone Wheatley or Mike Hart ? We are year 3 and I just NEVER thought that we would NOT have better talent then we do with JH running things . I like others thought we were beginning the chase of the Alabamas , Florida States , Clemsons and yes the hated buckeyes .
Now I worry more about fighting off Penn State and trying to beat MSU . I loved the saying , " Who has it better than us " . Now I hear alot of voices in Lansing saying , " We do ". Hell it just drives me nuts that a team with ALL the shit they went through were able to BEAT US IN OUR HOUSE !
I know there is no quick answer ...... yes I know it starts all over next Saturday , that we have to wait ANOTHER year for msu ( at their place ) , and that football is a funny game . But when I heard the stat that Brady and JH had the same record after 31 games , I was shocked . I still love JH, have faith that he will get this turned around , but its just so frustrating . I just wonder did ANYONE think this is where we would be on Dec 30th 2014 , as I sure didn't . Sorry for how long this is .... and yes I know , I did NOT mention one word about the defense . Its fantastic and I am thrilled how its played . I also look at our future schedules and see next year we are AT ND , OSU AND MSU . We have it easier in 2019 with AT WISCONSIN AND PENN STATE , followed by the worst season 2020 AT Washington , Va Tech at home , with road games AT MSU and OSU .
Ok .... so load up and tell me I am crazy ......I just hope things get better and that NOBODY DOES HAVE IT BETTER THAN US !
