If CJ Carr doesn’t reclassify to the ‘23 class, he won’t have to sign a letter-of-intent until December of next year at the earliest—18 months from now. I think it’s a certainty that a bunch of schools with big NIL collectives will be trying to flip him from Notre Dame. Both their coach and AD have said that if recruits are looking for big NIL deals, Notre Dame is the wrong place to look. Their primary pitch is attending Notre Dame for four years sets you up for the next forty.
On the other hand he’s got a father and two grandfathers who are very familiar with negotiating football contracts, and importantly the risk a young player takes by not monetizing his value while he’s still young and healthy. My guess is his father and grandfathers will be a lot more active on advising him on assuring his financial future than where he chose to go to school.
It’ll be interesting whether Carr and his family will buy into Notre Dame’s “four for forty” offer rather than lots of cash.
