Derrick Green RB. What Happened?

Based on his contributions over two years--mainly running into the back of his blockers before falling down--maybe he will transfer and open a scholarship.

I can't imagine another running back recruit--almost any recruit--wouldn't contribute more than Green.

Derrick Green is a good kid who worked hard but the film doesn't lie. He was a man among boys in high school who doesn't have the instincts/vision or elusiveness and power.

I am not disappointed with Derrick Green but amused at how he got a 5 star rating in the 1st place. Maybe a 4 star based on recruiting stars. I think the guy had the build and passed the eye test off the football field.

I remember many many of us watched his film and thought he could contribute early but was overrated. WE were right in this instance.

The competition around a high school star is ignored far too much and I am very aware of this as a high school school coach for over 20 years in Georgia, Mississippi, and South Carolina. I have coached in the smallest schools to the largest and I can tell you here in SC that the 4A level is all about the big boys. I coached against Jadeovan Clowney when he played at South Point and he was a man among boys with the best competition on the field. The Florida recruits will be legit for Michigan because their competition is the best in the nation period. Bush Jr and the other two kids won the 8A State Championship at Flanagan in South Florida and that is no easy task. They are legit. I have said all along that the star rankings have little credibility. I am worried about the NJ recruits because NJ prep football strength is only among the private schools. I do realize that almost all of them are private school kids. The Walker kid is explosive and can cut and run but it will be different playing against the athletes of Ohio State and MSU for example. I watched film on Derrick Green when he was being touted and I can tell you that his competition was not very good.

I have a good friend who is on the coaching staff at a B1G school. I was talking with him (after several beers) about recruiting a few years ago when they were playing in Ann Arbor. He brought up D. Green as an example of how messed up the rankings are. He pointed out the Farrell is good friends with Green's family so he rated him way higher then he should have been so he would have the inside scoop on a 5*, #1 ranked RB in the class.

Not surprised. It is a shame. the QB on my team this year was great friends with a Rivals insider and they ranked him a 3 star dual threat and listed him with offers he never received. I have said before that it is a money making scam and that is it.

you guys are right about ranking scams. But it's big money to a select group of people. The coaches had a ranking service just for coaches run by an Ohio coach living in Cali. And that's why coaches take 2 and 3 stars. They know.

I must take issue with one statement, however, about Florida football being the best. Living in SoCal and covering football for a number of years I think Cal has produced more stars than Florida and as many as Texas. When you think about it the locals go to USC, UCLA, Cal, Stanford, San Diego St., San Jose, up-and-down the coast to the Washington's and the Oregon's, as well as elsewhere, its an impressive lot.

No doubt that California is one of the best but Florida is outstanding. Across the U.S. from the big programs to the smallest D3 schools, there is a roster with a kid or kids from Florida on it. Some of the schools are as good as small college teams.
