Defense

Love and hate. Loved the win this week but hated the lost last week. Let's get ready for Rutgers.

So you're calling that pathetic call of a play with 2 seconds left a stand by your defense? Your D got shredded in that last drive until the Minny coach personally gave you his holiday treat pumpkin. Your defense didn't do anything that any other defense wouldn't have done in that situation....stacked the middle.

Kind of like when Michigan gave sparty their holiday pumpkin a couple weeks ago? Yup! Fact is, they made the play when they needed to. The clock management was very poor…almost as bad as dantonio's at the end of the Michigan game except nobody is talking about it because of the holiday pumpkin they got.

This game made me really nervous, our D regressed in terms of aggressive tackling, getting off blocks, playing with emotion, playing together, and playing in position. I sure as hell hope this was a hangover from the MSU game, because after Rutgers we play three games we could lose (Indiana has played OSU and MSU very tough and PSU appears to be peaking and you know about the last game).

AGP, good points.

A close win in adverse conditions brings a team together (or so they say). It was the defense's worst effort of the year but I think this staff is knowledgeable enough to iron out the wrinkles.

After watching this team tank almost every November for the last six years, it is not the staff's competency I'm worried about, it's the heart and moxie of this team. They looked like the old, folding-chair, shoot-yourself-in-foot Michigan football we've come to hate since 08. I think this staff is tremendously more competent and able, but that was regression at most phases of the game (except special teams) and that has me worried until I see it get fixed.

I agree with you. MSU didn't really do anything at the end of the UM game that other teams would not have done in the same situation. It was a gift. That's all I'm saying. Hopefully you don't hear MSU fans holding their special team up as "getting the job done in the end". It was a gift and that unit (MSU special teams) had cost them the game up to that point. If I were Dantonio I would just be silent on it other than to say bounces go your way at times and you just have to take those when they happen. I agree that UM's misfortune on October 17 was paid back to them by their good fortune agains UMinny.

Agreed. Things have odd ways of evening out in college football. It is just nice to finally be on the other side of these outcomes for once after the past 7 miserable years.
